Es bien conocido como un cantante del neo-tradicionalismo del country, además de ser autor de muchos de sus hits, es un multi instrumentista y ha tenido ( y tiene) un gran suceso comercial en el ámbito de la música country. A partir del año 1983 inicia su carrera solista con gran éxito y demandado en numerosas ocasiones para cantar a dúo con un sin fin de artistas. Fue invitado por Mark Knopfler, líder de Dire Straits para unirse al grupo por sus dotes de gran guitarrista, oferta que no aceptó, pero si participó en el álbum On Every Street con acompañamientos vocales y tocando la guitarra. Grabó mas de 20 discos de estudio y logró chartear mas de 40 canciones en el Hot Country Songs, vendió cerca de 25 millones de placas, también fue honrado con 18 premios de la Country Music Association, incluyendo 2 premios de "artista del año" y 5 "Mejor vocalista masculino". Vince también ha sido galardonado con 20 premios Grammy, más que cualquier otro artista masculino de cualquier género musical en la historia. En 2007 fue incluido en el Country Music Hall Of Fame y es miembro del prestigioso Grand Ole Opry desde el 10 de agosto de 1991. Esta casado con otra estrella de la música, Amy Grant.
